Round 3 Minor Football Championship 2022 August 17th, Lisnamult. Roscommon Gaels 4 - 18 Clann na nGael 2-04 Our U-17 continued their winning ways making it 3 wins from 3 when they overpowered Clan na Gael in Lisnamult on Wednesday last. Although the score line suggests an easy win the Clann team never gave up and indeed caused our defence some problems late in the game. In fact, Clann started the brightest and led from a well taken point from their centre forward. The Gaels lads then settled into a rhythm and excellent movement and link play seen us score 1-05 without reply by the 20th minute. The goal coming from Jack Raftery who was a thorn in the side of the Clann defence. Indeed, by the 25th Minute we added 2 more goals from the Carthy brothers, Eoghan and Rory, with Rory’s been a magnificent solo run and finish. Clan did manage a further point before half time, but their task looked difficult as the trailed 3-07 to 0-02 at the break. The resumption seen more of the same with excellent slick football resulting in us scoring an additional 1-09 to Clanns one point in the 3rd quarter. The goal from a Rory Carthy penalty and some excellent points from our backs raiding up the field most notably the excellent Ciaran O’Reilly. The management emptied the bench also and some notable contributions from Ben Donnellan, Joshua Lemos and Lochlann Mulry must have been an additional positive to them. In fairness Clann kept battling and finished strongly with two goals and a point to leave the final score at 4-19 to 2-04. A lot of positives to be taken from the game particularly the more unestablished players that stepped up the mark. However as always, the easy concession of late goals means our lads still have work to do to remain competitive particularly against stronger opposition. Still all in all mission accomplished to date and next up is Western Gaels. Keep it going lads.
