However, Roscommon Gaels didn't sit back and registered some fine scores themselves.. At the break, Shannon Gaels led by 6 points. The second half saw Roscommon Gaels come out with all guns blazing and racing into a two-point lead. Roscommon Gaels started to win possession down the right wing and the comeback began. Some fantastic scores from Chloe Donoghue goal from Eimear O’Farrell, as well as two fine saves by Sioda McGuinness and some great defending by our backs, got Roscommon Gaels right back in the match. All in all, a hectic but enjoyable day for all involved. U14 Football Div 1 Roscommon Gaels 0-10 Clan Na Gael 2-04 On a bright sunday morning ideal for football our lads started brightly playing into a stiff wind. Exchanges were tight in the first half. We had a job on our hands with their big midfielder - conor Sheehan but Ciaran & Rory stood firm in the middle of the field. Everthing that was thrown in on top of michael Gilhooley at full back - Michael won it hands down. He was outstanding in the first half along with Jack Donnelly who continues to impress and his physical athleticm at No 6 was a job to behold. We went in at half time 4 points to 2 up. Everything went well for us. Quick balll into john Mcguinness worked well but we changed a bit in the 2nd Half. Andrew oates came out of goal & placed in full forward. Worked for a while but we changed it later on. They got 2 goals within the space of 2 mins which put them 4 up but points from john mcguinness and rory carthy bring the teams level with a few mins left. Exchanges were frantic and some big hits went in. Great character building for these lads. Game finished level. We are sure to meet them again Next sunday we play St Dominic's in Tremane at 11am. That will be a tester & good for us !!! Division Four League Well done to our Junior Lads who defeated St Michaels in the League on Saturday. Final Score Roscommon Gaels 0-11 St Michaels 0-10. The theme of the session was “ An introduction to field position “ The lads are seen listening intently to their coaches !!!!! U10’s & U12’s This was a Day out for the Roscommon Gaels U-10’s and U-10’s Footballers and Hurlers to promote the Values that lay within the Club grassroots of the GAA. It was a very memorable day for all Kids and Adults alike, with the trip starting out on the famous Club Rossie Bus, which was great excitement for all. The 15 minute walk to Croke Park from Mountjoy Square was a sight to behold, with Roscommon Gales flags been held aloft, much to the bemusement from the rest of the onlooking supporters. There was great banter between supporters and the Guards on duty outside Croke Park. After a quick visit to the Croke Park Museum, we made our way to our seats in the Cusack Stand. To great excitement from our Roscommon Gaels crew, TJ Reid( 3 Times Hurling All Star and current Kilkenny Captain), Mick Fennelly (Ballyhale Shamrocks Captain) and the legendary Marty Morrissey came over to us for pictures and banter. With great wins for both Ballyhale Shamrocks and Corofin, it was a fantastic experience for all who attended. We finished the day off with a treat in Supermacs in Maynooth, who were extremely accommodating and friendly. Our youth in Roscommon Gaels left dreaming of some day having the same outing again, except this time they will be players and not supporters. Hopefully there dreams will come true! LGFA U12 Football U12 Football is back we had our first session last week, due to the pitches been waterlogged we trained in the Hyde. Training this week on Wednesday at 6.30-8pm and on Friday 6.30-8pm outdoor weather permitting. A text will go out to parents. U16 Football Training continues for our U16 girls. We had a bye this week in the league. Next game Round 3 is next Sunday v Shannon Gaels. This is an away game. Venue tbc a text will go out to confirm. Junior Ladies Junior Co. League Rd 3: Roscommon Gaels 0-8; Oran 3-5. Our third Junior League outing saw a much improved performance against Oran today at Rockfield. Oran were 7 points ahead at half time but we should probably have enjoyed a decent lead facing into the wind, and rain, which would have changed the complexion of the game if we hadn’t so many wides. Oran made better use of their chances in the second half to run out winners on the day. Credit to both sides who gave it all in a game which stretched energy levels to the limit. After one win, this was our second defeat in the league but all is not lost and we look forward to the upcoming fixture against Kilbride. Support! Hurling U-14 Hurling The U-14 hurlers lost to St. Dominic's in the county Feile last Saturday. Training continues on Monday evening at 5.30 p.m. in Lisnamult. LGFA U16 Football Our under 16s took to a very cold and wintery pitch today for their first match in the League v Castlrea at Lisnamult. Playing against the wind in the first half put our backs under a lot of pressure but the girls they did not give into it. Goaly Sioda McGuinness was outstanding today keeping their scoring down to just one goal. The full back line of Eadaoin Walsh, Carragh Kennedy and Caoimhe Walsh were solid and kept Castlrea’s scoring to a minimum. The half back line of Emma Crean, Mikayla Martin and the very talented player Ellen Beisty pushed the Castlrea girls back all day. Credit goes to Shauna Regan & Hollie Harkin who worked the field in all directions. Our forward’s and half forwards of Niamh Kelly, Jessica Doran, Isobelle Stephens Lohan, Saoirse Gilooly, Claire McNeill, Eimear O’Farrell, Ali Beirne, Ava Killion, Eva Greene were very strong and the scores were hard earned. Good luck for the rest of the season girls. Pictured are the U16 Management Team Leo McGuinness, Yvonne Donohue & Stephen Lohan. Junior Football Our Junior Ladies took on St Michael’s today in round 2 of the Division 3 league in Ballyfarnon. The Ladies played in atrocious wintery conditions, play had to be suspended for a time. The opening half we were playing against a very strong wind and missed several opportunities at scoring. We soon settled into the game 7 points down at half time. The second everyone of the girls played their hearts out to record their first victory in the league.
