County Hurling Following the fine victory we had today in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh, I want to make a special appeal to our clubs. Today Armagh had a large crowd of supporters for their home game. It is along time since we had any more than 40 people support us in our home games. I am contacting you early so that we can get as many supporters out next Sunday as possible. The management and players deserve a big support to encourage them to continue the great efforts they are putting in. If we win next Sunday we will be in League Final. Please encourage your club through all means of contact to get to Hyde Prak next Sunday by 1.45pm. to give our team a big welcome onto the pitch. Get all your underage players and supporters to go to stand. Come and for 1 weekend support our team in large numbers. Please don't forget to take action on this request. Up the Rossies Football U14 Football Our U14 lads played their first match of the year in Lisnamult this evening when they met Western Gaels in the opening round of the Div 1 league. Despite cold, wintry conditions both teams produced a good game. The Gaels showed determination and skill to win by 4-8 to 2-6. We will not be fielding a second team this year. U16 Football Our U16 lads played Brigid’s today in Lisnamult in the Div 4 league and came away with a convincing win of Roscommon Gaels 2-8 St Brigid’s 0-7. Our Div 1 lads are out again on 23rd Feb 12pm in Lisnamult v Clann na nGael. Minors Our Minor lads were also out today they played St Aidan’s in the Div 2 league final socre Roscommon Gaels 2-9 St Aidan’s 2-4. Coaching Hurling Foundation Course: Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are holding a Hurling Foundation course on Friday evening February 22nd and Saturday February 23rd in St Coman’s Wood NS. Roscommon County Council through partnership with Healthy Roscommon, the FAI, Connacht Rugby, GAA & LGFA are hosting a Free Training Course for all sports clubs, parents & coaches on how to adapt training courses for people with additional needs. On Monday, 18th February, 2019, @ 7.00 p.m. In Creggs National School and Astro Turf Pitch, Creggs Co Roscommon, F42 D592. The workshop will be jointly delivered by Oisin Jordan & Liam Moggan. Oisin is National Coordinator for the Football for All Programme with the FAI and also a Tutor for CARA who roll out generic training courses for coaches of all sports working with people with Additional Needs. Liam is a coach educator with Coaching Ireland and Vice President of Paralympics Ireland. PLAY SAFE - STAY SAFE HURLING HELMETS The GAA would like to remind all players at all levels in all Hurling Games and Hurling Practice Sessions it is mandatory for, and the responsibility of, each individual player to wear a helmet with a facial guard that meets the standards set out in IS: 335 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI). All players are advised that in the event of a head injury occurring, if the helmet being worn does not meet the standard or is modified or altered from the original manufactured state, they are not covered under the terms of the GAA Player Injury Fund. Further information is available here MOUTHGUARDS FOR GAELIC FOOTBALL Mouth guards are mandatory for players in all age grades, in all Gaelic football practice sessions and games. This rule has been mandatory for players in grades up to Minor since 2013 and applies to all age grades since January 1st 2014. This would be a useful seminar for all club sections to have a representative at. Registration Night Registration night is on this Friday 8th February at 7- 8.30pm. Forms available on the night or can be downloaded and filled in and handed in on the night by clicking on the following link www.roscommongaels.ie/documents.html Lgfa forms can also be downloaded from our website and will also be available on the night. As part of the night we are asking coaches to notify their players/parents to root out old/unused gear so that it can be given out to our younger players. Roscommon Gaels Togs, Socks, Football boots, Hurls, Helmets. All in reasonable state. Can all be left into the Hyde at least half an hour before the registration starts. We are not selling anything but parents wishing to avail of any gear - we would look for a small contribution towards funding of Items towards our juvenile teams.
