On August 8th, 2022 the Under 11 Footballers travelled to Croke Park, in the Club Rossie bus, to play in the Connacht Go Games Day. The Connacht GAA Go Games days provided selected clubs from all over Connacht the experience of Croke Park. Roscommon Gaels were able to bring two teams giving all the group an opportunity to play in Croke Park. Prior to the games, the group were brought on a tour of the grounds and dressing room areas and got to see where the top teams in the country prepare for big match days. They were also given an insight into how Croke park is maintained on a daily basis by a friendly Croke Park tour guide. For the games competition, the two teams had three games each to play (Ardmoy, Swinford 1 & 2, Kinvara, Craughwell and Louisburgh. When it came to game time, the boys channelled all their excitment and nerves onto the pitch and played some lovely football, showing off what they have learnt at training all year. On the homeward bound journery the group stopped for refreshments at the Kinnegad Plaza compliments of McNulty Furniture. The Go Games initiative, which was spearheaded by former Connacht GAA Games Manager, John Tobin, first took place fourteen years ago and has continued giving opportunities to many clubs in the region. Many thanks to Cahal Cregg, Event Co-Ordinator for enabling this opportunity to this young group. Thanks to lead coach Mick Byrne, Seamus O'Neill, Football Coaching Officer, Robbie, Ronan, Ciaran and Gerry for the taking the boys on the trip for the day. Memories have been made forever.
