Roscommon 2-13 - St Brigids 2-07 What started out as a lovely evening of sunshine in Ballyforan on Friday last, when it came to play the national anthem and for referee Dermot McDermott to throw in the ball, the skies turned black and the heavens opened before Roscommon Gaels and St Brigids went to battle. But the heavy downpour didn’t put anyone off playing their league final. As soon as the ball was thrown in Roscommon Gaels were swift into action controlling proceedings early in the game with scores coming from Cathal Mulry and Sam Walsh. Daniel Nerney and Joseph McSharry dominated the centre of field keeping the play in the Gaels’ end of the field. There was always a threat to the Gaels back line as the Brigids lads were able to move the ball quickly into their forward line. However, Darragh Killeen and captain Eoin Naughten kept a close handle on any attack with the assistance of William Godfrey and Conor Keaveney. Seamie Carthy and Eli Okambawa in the half back line for Roscommon Gaels kept the supply of ball to the half forward line of Ben Dolan Cathal Nerney and Daithi Kelly. At half time Roscommon Gaels were in a strong position with a healthy lead of 2-07 to 1-01, however, the Brigids lads weren’t lying down and came back into the game scoring 2 goals in quick succession. The Gaels lads responded by sticking to their game plan and supporting each other when in possession of the ball, and that game plan saw them to a victory in the end. Congratulations to all the lads and to Management David Kelly, Shane Killeen, Michael Sweeney and Jason Hoare.
