Update on Club Coaching Mentoring Programme Reminder of the 3No. objectives that were agreed upon at our meeting on 27th March :- • Implement Club – Primary School Link. • Coach Education.- Coach the Coaches • Expanded Coaching Committee - to meet monthly. Status of objectives :- • Implement Club – School Link. : Immediately prior to the summer school holidays our coaching committees put forward names of coaches who might be willing to coach within Primary Schools in the Roscommon Gaels catchment area (i.e. St Comans Wood, Gael Scoil, Kilteevan). Coaches were contacted and a number of meetings held to discuss the structure of the Club School Link. It was agreed to focus our energies at the younger age children i.e. Junior and Senior Infants. We have 9/10 of our Club Coaches now rolling out the ABC Programme in the three schools. We will provide a further progress update in a few months time. • Coach Education- Coach the Coaches : This objective remains an open action item. The intent is this will be actioned within the next number of weeks. Update will follow on this. • Expanded Coaching Committee : The Coaching Committee has been expanded to approx. 12 members. • C U12 Hurling Skills • County Skills Final Saturday October 6th • Venue Tremane. • Time 4pm. • Connacht final Friday October 12th • Venue Connacht COE. • Time 7pm. LGFA U14 Football: Our Under 14 girls play Oran in the Summer League A Final on Sunday at 12pm in Lisnamult please come out and support the girls. U16 Football: Anthony, Leo, Mike and Mary are getting the girls ready for a semi final that is to be played hopefully end of this month. Training Continues for the girls. County Development Well done to all our Gaels Girls who are doing County Development at the Minute. We have lots of girls at U13 & U15. A group of our U14’s travelled to Limierick yesterday to the JP McManus Centre of Excellence in Martinstown to partake in the inaugural Ingenium Inter County Blitz with Limerick, Offaly, Laois and Roscommon batting it out for silverware. Roscommon overcame both Offaly,Laois and Limerick to setup a final with Limerick. Both sides played brilliantly. Roscommon missed a couple of Goal chances and were unlucky to be beaten by four points. Well done to our Roscommon Gaels Girls Hollie Harkin, Claire McNeilll, Chloe Donoghue, Caoimhe Walsh, Mikayla Martyn, Ellen Biesty, Eimear O’Farrell and Eadaoin Walsh who was doing the Stats. The future is looking bright in Roscommon Ladies Football. Pictured in action yesterday against Laois was Roscommon Gaels Hollie Harkin. 1978 Ladies 40th Anniversary Pictured in Faithleach’s club house last Tuesday were Mary Mulhern, Anne & Michael Naughton, Roscommon Gaels members Mary Kelly & Marie McAleer. There was a presentation to the 1978 All Ireland Football ladies who were celebrating their 40th Anniversary. Brendan Cregg Roscommon Ladies LGFA Chairperson in his speech said that Marie McAleer was the backbone of Roscommon Ladies football back then and still is. Keep the flag flying Marie we are very proud of all you and honoured to have you as a member. Football U8 Football: Roscommon Gaels hosted our Annual Bernie Hoare Tournament last Friday 5th under lights in Lisnamult. This marks the end of the U8 Boys Football season for 2018. As always, this is a great way to end the season with the boys playing in the Bernie Hoare Cup for the older boys and the Bernie Hoare Shield for the beginners. A very enjoyable evening was had and it was great to see first-hand the progress made by all the lads this year. A big thank you to all the players for coming out each week, to their parents for their commitment to taking them to training and encouraging them and finally a big thank you to all the coaches for their dedication to under age football. The U-14 hurlers beat Padraig Pearses by 2-13 to 1-9 in an enjoyable, closely-contested U-14 league play-off under lights at Ballyforan on Friday evening. The team will now play Four Roads in the semi-final at 12.30 p.m. next Sunday. The match will be played in either Athleague or Tremane.
