Some of our teams have already started training in preparation for upcoming games. The time you give to coaching our teams is fantastic – let’s make all sessions as enjoyable and effective as possible. PLAY SAFE - STAY SAFE HURLING HELMETS The GAA would like to remind all players at all levels in all Hurling Games and Hurling Practice Sessions it is mandatory for, and the responsibility of, each individual player to wear a helmet with a facial guard that meets the standards set out in IS: 335 or other replacement standard as determined by the National Safety Authority of Ireland (NSAI). All players are advised that in the event of a head injury occurring, if the helmet being worn does not meet the standard or is modified or altered from the original manufactured state, they are not covered under the terms of the GAA Player Injury Fund. Further information is available here MOUTHGUARDS FOR GAELIC FOOTBALL Mouth guards are mandatory for players in all age grades, in all Gaelic football practice sessions and games. This rule has been mandatory for players in grades up to Minor since 2013 and applies to all age grades since January 1st 2014. If you have unused helmets, we would greatly appreciate if you would donate them to the club for use by our underage members and beginners. Hurling Roscommon GaelsU8 Hurling The U8 hurling season commences indoors in the Convent Gym on Wednesday February 20th from 6pm to 7pm. Indoors runs for 6 weeks before moving outdoors to Lisnamult from the start of April. Our U8 manager for 2019 is Nicola Crosbie (086 344 0060) Roscommon Gaels U10 Hurling The U10 hurling season commences indoors in the Convent Gym on Monday February 18th from 6pm to 7pm. Indoors runs for 6 weeks before moving outdoors to Lisnamult from the start of April. Our U10 manager for 2019 is Shane Nerney (087 737 0142) At half time during Sunday’s Roscommon V Monaghan NHL Game there was a penalty shootout among our six underage hurling clubs. U15 Hurler’s from each club took three penalties each. Well done to Ryan Conlon from Roscommon Gaels and a big bualadh bos to Clubman Noel Fallon for organising and not forgetting our two Gaels men Georoid and Cillian Egan who were on the Senior Panel. How to adapt training courses for people with additional needs Roscommon County Council through partnership with Healthy Roscommon, the FAI, Connacht Rugby, GAA & LGFA are hosting a Free Training Course for all sports clubs, parents & coaches on how to adapt training courses for people with additional needs. On Monday, 18th February, 2019, @ 7.00 p.m. in Creggs National School and Astro Turf Pitch, Creggs Co Roscommon, F42 D592. The workshop will be jointly delivered by Oisin Jordan & Liam Moggan. Oisin is National Coordinator for the Football for All Programme with the FAI and also a Tutor for CARA who roll out generic training courses for coaches of all sports working with people with Additional Needs. Liam is a coach educator with Coaching Ireland and Vice President of Paralympics Ireland. The course will consist of theory and practical sessions relevant to all sports coach’s, clubs and organisations. This would be a useful seminar for all club sections to have a representative at. Registration Night Registration night is on this Friday 8th February at 7- 8.30pm. Forms available on the night or can be downloaded and filled in and handed in on the night by clicking on the following link www.roscommongaels.ie/documents.html Lgfa forms can also be downloaded from our website and will also be available on the night. As part of the night we are asking coaches to notify their players/parents to root out old/unused gear so that it can be given out to our younger players. Roscommon Gaels Togs, Socks, Football boots, Hurls, Helmets. All in reasonable state. Can all be left into the Hyde at least half an hour before the registration starts. We are not selling anything but parents wishing to avail of any gear - we would look for a small contribution towards funding of Items towards our juvenile teams. Please note that you will NOT be insured while training or playing matches if you have not registered
