We are delighted that our u12’s will be one of the 64 camogie teams from all over Ireland and 1 of the two teams representing Roscommon taking part in Camán to Croker on the 8th of April 2018. Camán to Croker is a blitz for U12 teams. They will play in three 12-a-side games, meeting teams from all over the country. This is a wonderful day for all teams and mentors and one we hope they will cherish forever ? ? U14 Camogie training Saturday Morning’s 10.00-11.00am in Lisnamult please wear warm clothes. Our U14 girls had a challenge match last Tuesday evening against Fohenagh/Ahascragh in preparation for their Feile game tomorrow. Half way through the game news broke out of Tommy Doran’s untimely passing. Jessica Doran plays with the U14’s and Doran’s kindly sponsor our girls Jerseys. Tina and family you are in our prayers and thoughts. Our girls have their first Feile game tomorrow 19th of March at 11.30am in Oran. We are hosting Feile this year it’s important we get as many families as possible to help with the hosting. Several of our girls were on the Roscommon Minor Camogie Panel that played Laois on Saturday in Athleague. Izzy Cullen, Mia Fallon, Lisa Mullen, Niamh Madden, Amy McNeill and Ruth McNeill. It wasn’t Roscommon’s day but well done girls for making the panel and keep the flag flying high. Hurling U8 hurling commences Thursday Feb 15th from 6-7 pm in convent gym. U10 hurling commences Monday Feb 12th from 6-7 pm in convent gym. U12 hurling commences Wednesday Feb 14th from 6-7 pm in convent gym. Please bring €2 per child per night to cover cost of gym hire. Sock also required to cover hurl while playing indoors. All new members welcome! Our U14 Hurlers our playing Oran in Lisnamult tomorrow 19th of March at 12pm. Well done to our u17 hurlers this evening who played Four Roads in the U17 Championship in what was Baltic conditions. Final score Roscommon Gaels 4-9 Four Roads 1-03. We led from the start and held Four Roads scoreless for the first half. Good fast hurling played by us. It was a physical game but the Gaels had the drive to push on from start to finish. All players put on a great display. We had 22 togged. That’s 3 wins from 3 next up is St Dominic’s. Well done lad’s great performance. LGFA U12 Football is back Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm in The Hyde a text will go out. Apologies to players and parents for no training last week. Our 1st leg of the league is Monday 2nd of April we will be playing St. Barry’s at 6pm in Lisnamult. U14 Football training continues Tuesday evenings in Full Body Workhouse at 8.15pm €5 this is a combined training of both footballers and camogie players. U16 girls were out today against Shannon Gael’s in Lisnamult. Conditions were cold to say the least. Like many other clubs the Gaels have a big drop off in U16’s fairplay to our U14’s who stepped up today. We were beat by a stronger side if we can cut out the basic errors, turnovers and take our scores we will be able to compete with any team. Final Score Roscommon Gaels 0:1 Shannon Gaels 3:4. Training continues Wednesday evening’s 7.30pm at the Hyde bring water, Mouth shield and Gloves. Next game is on Sunday 25th of March against Kilbride in Kilbride at 4pm. Management Cancelled training Tuesday evening due to the untimely passing of Tommy Doran. Rachel Doran is one of our star players. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we are all feeling for Rachel and her family at this time. Junior Ladies Football training continues Tuesday evening’s 8.15pm in the Hyde and Sunday Morning’s 11am full attendance is requested. For those living in Dublin management are in the process of setting up zone training. Unfortunately due to the backlog of games and the difficulty in finding dates to play are division was split into 2. Meaning we had only 1 game in our division. Club Coaching Mentoring Programme 2018 – Important Date for all our Club Coaches (27 March) Following a meeting of our Clubs Team Managers to discuss the Club Coaching Programme, it was decided that we should participate in the programme. The first phase/session of the programme will take place on Tuesday 27th March in the Hyde. All Managers and Coaches are asked to attend. The first session will provide an opportunity for all our coaches to present their views on how we can improve Coaching and Coaching Structures in our club and will require us to conduct a S.W.O.T. analysis. Award 1 Football Course – Final Reminder Great that Roscommon Gaels has some coaches who have indicated they will sit the Award One Football Course on Friday April 6th, Saturday April 7th and Saturday April 14th in Scoil Mhuire Strokestown Secondary school. Congrats to Cathal Cregg on his new GAA appointment: Roscommon Gaels would like to congratulate Roscommon senior footballer and Western Gaels club man Cathal Cregg on his appointment as the new Connacht GAA Provincial Games Manager replacing the retired John Tobin. This is a great honour for Cathal and the County and we wish him every success in his new role. Roscommon Primary schools mini-sevens blitz: Roscommon Cumann na Mbunscol are holding their annual mini sevens Go Games blitz in St. Faithleach's GAA grounds Ballyleague on next Wednesday March 21st. The blitz will afford the committee the opportunity to pick their primary school boys and girls that will participate and represent Roscommon in Croke Park exhibition matches during the All-Ireland football & hurling championships along with the exhibition match during half time in the Connacht senior football final. Roscommon Coaching and Games Development staff will support and assist the planning of the blitz. Roscommon senior schools football B final: The Roscommon senior schools football B championship final between Castlerea CS and Roscommon CC will be played in Kilbride GAA Park on next Wednesday March 21st at 11am. Primary school coaching programme: Roscommon Coaching and Games Development primary school football and hurling coaching programme will commence on Monday April 9th for nine weeks in our national schools. Our GPO’s and part-time school coaches will be in touch with all Primary schools this week to confirm their rota and schedule. U14 football development squad trials. Roscommon Coaching and Games Development will shortly commence trials for this year’s U14 football development squad. Clubs will be asked to forward players in their final year at U14 to take part in the trials. Employment for Third level Kelloggs Cul Camp coaches: Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are seeking applications from third level students/coaches to work on our Kellogg’s Cull camps for 2018. Ronan McCormack Charity Challenge 2018 Only a few weeks to go until the Ronan McCormack Charity Challenge 2018 kicks off. This year's event in aid of The Roscommon Special Olympics, Children’s Special Needs Services Galway and Pieta House West. For the serious Athletes there is moonlight 10k run and also includes a shorter run of 5K on the Friday. There is also a cycle challenge on the Saturday a 65k and 125k For many this is a poignant day to remember Ronan and is a highlight in our local calendar as everyone gathers and spends a week=end supporting each other and having a laugh whilst raising vital funds for deserving charities. And let’s not underestimate the craic that is to be had afterwards on the Saturday Night The eagerly anticipated darts competition takes place in Foxes Bar, Athlone Road Roscommon. Condolences Roscommon Gaels GAA Club would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the Doran Family Tina, Jason, Rachel and Jessica and the extended Doran family on the untimely passing of Tommy Doran. Tommy sponsored our U14 Girls Jerseys and was often on the sideline cheering on Jessica and Rachel at matches and will be greatly missed Ar dheis Dé raibh a anam.
