13th July Ladies Football Family Care Practice U19 League 🏐 A very warm, humid and sunny evening saw our U19 Ladies Footballers open their League campaign at home with their game v Clann na nGael brought forward to yesterday evening. The young Gaels ladies played with the wind in their favour in the first half but took a little while to settle in. Clann amounted a 1-02 lead early on but the Gaels girls got into their rhythm and started clocking up the scores. Going into half time with a 9 point lead the Gaels girls knew Clann with the breeze in the second half would not give up too easily. Clann were finding some easy scores in the second half where as the Gaels girls weren't finding them as handy. Clann came back to within a 4 points margin aided by 2 penalties but the Gaels ladies found their mo-jo again and ensured they came out on top. A very competitive match with excellent teamwork from the Gaels and some lovely displays of direct football. Our pitch was in tip-top condition and Referee JJ Leonard did a great job and facilitated water breaks for the players which were badly needed in the beautiful weather. Well done to everyone and to our U16's that played and were massive support to our older girls 👏🏐 🟪🟨 Roscommon Gaels 03-14 Clann na nGael 4-07 7th Aug Girls U19 Football League: Ros Gaels 5-13, St Dominics 4-13 In an entertaining and hard-fought clash, both Ros Gaels and St Dominics – already safely through to the semi-finals – gave it everything in a full-throttle encounter that lived up to expectations. The first half belonged to Ros Gaels, who made full use of the wind at their backs to build a commanding lead. They dominated proceedings, outscoring St Dominics by 5-7 to 0-8 before the break. Goal after goal flew in as the Gaels’ attack ran riot, with points added for good measure. At the back, Eve McNeill stood firm under pressure, while Grace Geraghty covered every blade of grass in midfield. Up front, Shauna Walsh led the offensive charge. The second half saw the tables turn as St Dominics took advantage of the wind. They came out strong, scoring early and often, but were also guilty of some costly missed chances. Despite the mounting pressure, Ros Gaels kept their composure and found crucial scores when needed – not enough to dominate the half, but just enough to keep their noses in front. When the final whistle blew, Ros Gaels held on for a thrilling win. With both teams now through to the semi-finals, a rematch could well be on the cards – and if this game is anything to go by, it promises to be another cracker. N.B missing from the photo is Anna Kiernan who went off with an ankle injury 17th Aug Junior Championship vs Strokestown in Strokestown 4-12 to 0-05 Win
